Gallery 1 – Fire Losses
Fires happen, a lot. Tenant-occupied properties are for more susceptible to loss by unintended fire than any other type of property due to common tenant apathy and carelessness, multiple tenants in the same building (such as fourplexes and apartments), and many rental properties are of older construction and may have less modern fire safety equipment (alarms, sprinklers, etc) and they are often made with wood siding and other high fuel-load materials.

FIRE LOSS # 1: The photos below are of a duplex rental unit which we insured and the fire occurred just two months after the property was purchased, rehabbed, and rented. The fire happened early in the morning hours while all tenants were asleep. After investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by a tenant in one side of the duplex leaving the stove-top on when going to bed. The result was a total loss of the property (all tenants managed to evacuate safely). Because the tenants had chosen not to purchase renter’s insurance, both families lost all of their personal belongings, including clothing, furniture, and other material items.
